Board of Directors’ Biographies

Board Members

Dawn to Dawn presently functions with a seven member Board. The members in alphabetical order are:

Michael Bergob

Michael recently returned to the Board as Chair, having accepted a seat in 2010. Michael brings 20 years of experience with Statistics Canada where, prior to his retirement, he researched and authored numerous reports on a wide range of policy-driven topics. With both an undergraduate and a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Victoria, he has published independent research in academic journals such as the Social Science Journal, Canadian Studies in Population and Canadian Social Trends. In addition to his Board duties, including acting as the Chair of the Communications Committee, Michael volunteered as the Publications Officer of the Canadian Disability Studies Association and founded their peer-review journal The Canadian Journal of Disability Studies of which he is now the Managing Editor.

Rick Brown

Rick joined the Board of Dawn to Dawn in March of 2011. Rick brings over 25 years experience working within the BC Ministry of Social Development where he held progressively more responsible positions from front line work to that of Director. His responsibilities included all aspects of Service delivery from front line to strategic and business planning, prevention and loss management, change management, project planning and management, etc. Rick retired from the BC public Service in Dec. 2010.

Richard Clarke

Richard joined the Board of Directors in January of 2012. After 37 years in the Public Sector, Richard moved to the Comox Valley in 2011 and established Avenidor Consultants a public sector service reform focused consultant service. Richard currently serves on the Boards of the Canadian Landmine Foundation, the Institute of Citizen Centered Services, is President of the Rotary Foundation (Canada), serves as a volunteer for the Red Cross and is an Ambassador for Shelterbox Canada. Richard is a longstanding member of The Redwood, a shelter for women and children in Toronto.

Tom Grant

Tom is a founding member of Dawn to Dawn: Action on Homelessness Society and has served on the Board since inception in 2007. He is a retired businessman with over 25 years experience in the retail and construction industry. Tom has a Marketing Administration Diploma from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. He has served for nine years as a Comox Town Councillor and is a past Vice Chair of the Comox Valley airport Commission. Tom devotes much of his time to both the Residential Program as a facilitator and the Care-a-Van program as a driver.

Joline Martin

Joline joined the Board of Dawn to Dawn in early 2010 shortly after moving to the Valley. She brings over 35 years experience with a variety of non-profit boards as a Director in social service societies throughout northern British Columbia. Joline last served with Mental Health & Addictions, British Columbia Northern Health, as Director of Practice, Development and Quality Improvement. While there she represented Northern Health at the provincial planning table for Mental Health and Addictions, Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions Research. Joline has a BA from Western Illinois University and a M.Ed. from Simon Fraser University. She currently operates a small private counseling practice. Most recently Joline served on the Comox Valley Regional District Standing Committee for housing and homelessness.

Richard Wilburn

Richard joined the Board of Dawn to Dawn in 2008 and assumed the office of Treasurer shortly thereafter. Richard retired from the position of Director of Internal Audit at London Drugs in 2007 and has been active in a variety of volunteer positions throughout the Comox Valley since. Richard has a BA in English from UBC and holds retired status with both the Canadian Chartered Accountants (CA.CIA) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (C.I.A).
