The Black Tie and Chilli Hard Times Ball

The Black Tie and Chilli Hard Times Ball a Successful Fundraiser for DAWN to DAWN

Dawn to Dawn held The Black Tie and Chilli Hard Times Ball and Silent Auction on May 9th, 2009 at the Florence Filberg Centre:

The Georgia Straight Big Band & The Jenn Forsland Group co-hosted our May 9th Dance at the Filberg for an evening of continuous live dance music. The Georgia Straight Big Band is a fixture in the Comox Valley and delivered the lush sound and solid swing of a classic 1940’s big band and featured vocalist (crooner) Ralph Barrat who delivered memorable vocal performances, reminiscent of the style of Frank Sinatra.

Complementing the Georgia Straight Big Band with alternating sets, was “The Jenn Forsland Group”, a 6 piece jazz ensemble, also from the Comox Valley.  The Forsland Group kept the dancing going with traditional and contemporary jazz standards, featuring the very talented vocals of Jenn Forsland.

Tickets for the event were $50.00 per person (including a $25.00 tax receipt with 90% or more of all funds raised going to the Residential Program), which garnered $4,916.65 after expenses.  There was a silent auction which had a Home and Garden theme, and raised $5,128.00.  The sale of cupcakes from Dollies Cupcakes raised $165.00; Liquor sales (after expenses) $97.86; the Table Art Silent Auction obtained $573.60 and a generous donation of $300 was given anonymously at the event.

In total, this event earned $10,881.11 minus $1,684.57 in expenses, plus a $300 donation for a total profit of $9,663.25 for Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society’s Residential Program!

Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society wishes to thank all the volunteers who helped organize this event; the Georgia Straight Big Band and the Jenn Forsland Group for donating the music; all the people who attended and had a great time; and those who participated in the silent auction to raise additional funds for our residential program – Thank you!
