Dawn to Dawn is holding The Black Tie and Chilli Hard Times Ball and Silent Auction on May 9th, 2009 at the Florence Filberg Centre Wear your tuxes and tennis shoes, your denim and diamonds and come have some fun for a great cause:
Georgia Straight Big Band & The Jenn Forsland Group to co-host May 9 Dance at the Filberg Georgia Straight Big Band will partner with the Jenn Forsland Jazz Combo, for an evening of continuous live dance music. The Georgia Straight Big Band is a fixture in the Comox Valley and delivers the lush sound and solid swing of a classic 1940’s big band. The band is under the musical directorship of Greg Bush, Professor of Music at the University of Vancouver Island (Nanaimo) Bush’s roots are in Montreal, where he completed a Masters in Jazz Performance at McGill University. Greg has excelled as a jazz educator, trumpet player, composer and arranger, performing and teaching across North America, Europe and Australia. Featured vocalist (crooner) will be Ralph Barrat who will deliver memorable vocal performances, reminiscent of the style of Frank Sinatra.
Complimenting the Georgia Straight Big Band with alternating sets, will be “The Jenn Forsland Group”, a 6 piece jazz ensemble, also from the Comox Valley. The Forsland group will keep the dancing going with traditional and contemporary jazz standards, featuring the very talented vocals of Jenn Forsland. Ms. Forsland, who is a 1998 graduate of the Music Education program at the Universitiy of Victoria, and returned to Vancouver Island 2 years ago, after a decade in Red Deer.
So, get on those dancing shoes on and join the fun to support a serious cause.
Music is donated by Georgia Straight Big Band and The Jenn Forsland Group. The silent auction has a home and garden theme. Tickets for the event are $50.00 per person and includes a $25.00 tax receipt with 90% or more of all funds raised going to the Residential Program.
